“The Hardrock Haven Band of the Month is a band we firmly believe needs to be heard. Each month, one Hardrock Haven staff member has their opportunity to pick a band they feel is going to break soon; a band that is deserved of nationwide attention; and lastly, a band that just kicks ass.” … Derric Miller.
Hardrock
Haven is proud to bring you our seventh installment for our new section
— Band of the Month — and this time around
we we journey to the United Kingdom and discover the fiery hard rock band
Burn.
Burn was formed in 1991 in the town of Loughborough, located in the heart of the United Kingdom. The band was founded by vocalist Jeff Ogden, guitarist Rab Devenney, bassist Marc Stackhouse, his brother keyboardist Barney Stackhouse and drummer Karl Bee. By ’93 Burn had released their debut studio release, So Far So Bad, which showcased the bands brand of melodic hard rock. The band instantly was gratified to receive glowing reviews from metal magazines such as Kerrang and Metal Hammer.

Their sophomore release, Spark to a Flame, arrived two years later. The band continued to push forward until tragedy struck in ’01. While working on their third album, drummer Karl Bee died in a tragic motorcycle accident. The sting of their loss hit the band hard and began a subsequent shifting of personnel as Bee was replaced, and eventually guitarist Rab Devenney left the band. The completion and release of their third album was put on indefinite hold.
Moving forward to ’07, the remaining original members of Burn vocalist Jeff Ogden, bassist Mike Stackhouse and his brother Barney have returned. Solidifying their ranks with guitarists Phil Hammond (Alien) and Julian Nicholas as well drummer Benjy Reid (Ted Nugent/Praying Mantis/Debby Bonham). The rebirth of the band has led to the completion of their third studio release Global Warning.
With time, the band has matured, and this can be heard within the confines of Burns songwriting as well as the individual performances of each musician in the group. Although it has been 12 years since their last studio release, the band spent much of that time performing gigs which helped redefine their identity and hone their skills.
The band’s rediscovery of their historical third release that “never was” led original members along with their new comrades to reinvent and rebuild their legacy. Global Warning is a great hard rock release that embodies the spirit of the genre. Loaded with hooks, stadium filling vocals, lavish melodic structures, fiery and emotional solos … Burn continues to add fuel to the fire.
