“The Hardrock Haven Band of the Month is a band we firmly believe needs to be heard. Each month, one Hardrock Haven staff member has their opportunity to pick a band they feel is going to break soon; a band that is deserved of nationwide attention; and lastly, a band that just kicks ass.” … Derric Miller.
Hardrock Haven is proud to continue into our second year for our feature installment — Band of the Month — and this time around we journey to Columbia, Missouri in the USA to checkout the local home grown band Decadent Nation.
There are so many “local bands” that remain local for the
majority of their existence. They may have a small local following but
it never turns into more then a few shows here and there around town.
But, on occasion you hear one of these local bands and you can tell that
is going to do extremely well almost instantaneously. They have talent,
they have presence, and they have a drive that will make their mark on
the face of the music industry. The band Decadent Nation is one of those
rare examples.
The Columbia, Mo. band was formed in 2004 when vocalist/guitarist Colin LaVaute joined drummer Tony Schulte and guitarists Adam Rolfes and Tom Troesser. With replacement bass player Ryan Smith, the band released their first album PuLsE in 2005. In 2007, the band made the trip to 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica, Calif. to record their newest self-titled E.P., a taste of the next album in the making.
The band, who currently has shows lined up around Missouri and even opening for national acts such as Chevelle in April, has a heavy sound with a melodic component. Their songs are not only good they are also intelligent, with topics touching on the government and the release from day to day life. The band’s sound is complex and difficult to classify under one genre, which allows their music to be diverse and ever changing. You can hear the influences of such bands as Tool and Rage Against the Machine, but they are neither limited nor mimicking that sound. They are truly an original band.

When asked how the band feels about being Hardrock Haven Band of the Month for April 2008, vocalist Colin LaVaute responded, “I am excited for the opportunity to get our music to a larger audience.”
If you like rock of all sorts, metal, progressive, alternative, or just something that is both smart and catchy, check out Decadent Nation or simply wait.
