Band of the Month

Faber Drive
May 2008

by Curt Hauff
Staff Writer

“The Hardrock Haven Band of the Month is a band we firmly believe needs to be heard. Each month, one Hardrock Haven staff member has their opportunity to pick a band they feel is going to break soon; a band that is deserved of nationwide attention; and lastly, a band that just kicks ass.” … Derric Miller.

Hardrock Haven is proud to continue into our second year for our feature installment — Band of the Month — and this time around we journey to Canada to meet Faber Drive.

Faber Drive is the perfect fit for May’s Band of the Month. This is a band that you definitely need to get your ears on. They’re shooting up the charts in Canada and are on the verge of breaking huge in the States. It’s just a matter of time before the predictably slow-moving radio machine finally catches the Faber wave. The band completely kicks ass and deserve all the attention and success they get. Plus, they’re really just nice, down to earth guys who enjoy what they do.

Faber Drive is a pop/punk/rock band with excellent songwriting skills. Their debut album Seven Second Surgery not only has catchy songs with huge hooks, but it even has a catchy title (derived from an old Egyptian saying which means “When the winds blow over the sands of time, we will remain), complete with perfect alliteration. Musically and stylistically, the band can be compared to the likes of Hedley, Junior, Good Charlotte, Bowling for Soup, Jimmy Eat World and Simple Plan. You can read Hardrock Haven’s review in its entirety here.

After forming in 2004, the band won a competition on a local radio station and were subsequently voted best band in Vancouver in 2005. In just three short years since, Faber Drive signed with 604 Records, recorded and released Seven Second Surgery and have been climbing the charts in Canada like a rocket. In fact, their new single, “When I’m With You,” just reached #2 in Canada.

The band has big plans this summer as they continue to promote their debut album and bring Faber Drive fever to the masses. Faber, the band’s singer, reports that they will be playing arena shows all summer with two major headliners and then going back into the studio in late fall to record their follow up. Not a bad situation to be after only three years of busting your butt!

After hearing the album, it won’t surprise you that a typical Faber Drive show is a high energy, fun show with plenty of audience interaction. There is even rumor of free t-shirts being thrown out to the frolicking faithful. Faber Drive is one of those bands that appreciates the success they’ve had and take very special care of the fans that have helped get them where they are today. In fact Faber says, “We always meet the fans and sign autographs after the show!”

One thing you may not know about Faber Drive is that prior to forming the band, Faber gave music and drum lessons for a living. The interesting part comes when you learn that Faber actually taught his future drummer, Red Bull, how to play drums! It appears that the student may have surpassed the teacher in this case, however.

Hardrock Haven welcomes Faber Drive as May’s Band of the Month. We wish them continued success and a fun 2008. Congratulations guys!

Fans can check out music, live concert clips and VLOG’s from the road at the band’s MySpace page: www.myspace.com/faberdrive. You can purchase Seven Second Surgery at www.604records.com, www.cduniverse.com, www.amazon.com, iTunes or your local cd shop.
