Powerful, melodic hard rock, Wings of Innocence is the
debut CD release from the Texas based band Azreal’s Bane.
Formed in the summer of 2002, the band has built a strong regional
following and has also opened for national acts such as George Lynch
(Dokken), Quiet Riot, LA Guns, Lillian Axe, Angel, and Zebra. Taking
their music from the stage to the studio, Azrael’s Bane entered
the studio in October of 2003, with co-producer and engineer Gregg
Gill (Distant Thunder, Seven Witches).
Wings
of Innocence contains 12 tracks and although maintains modern
production, the CD is a throw back to 80s and early 90s metal. The
CD features the twin guitar attack of Jeff Clifton and Chuck McFadden,
harmonious vocals of Trey Gadler, the thundering drumming of Donny
Bragg and the rumblings of bassist Brent Marches.
The
guys tip their hat to great 80s metals bands such as Queensryche,
Iron Maiden, Savatage, Lillian Axe and Queensryche. Vocalist Trey
Gadler at times reminds me of the vocalist for Lillian Axe. He has
a fine vocal delivery that is strong and intelligible. The guitars
are similar to earlier works by Queensryche’s Degarmo and
Wilton. With blistering solos and the crunchy rhythm work, the music
on the CD is quite a change of pace to the more modern metal scene
that abounds us today.
The
opening track “Shine” is a melodic master piece with
a stylish chorus and hook laden music and dual guitar harmonies,
a real nice upbeat rocker. “Foolish Pride” opens with
a acoustic guitar and lead guitar before the vocals enter and build
the song up. “Foolish Pride” maintains an even tempo
and some fine guitar soloing. “Silence” is another cool
track that utilizes the acoustic guitar, drums and vocals as the
song intros and continues to build into the chorus.
I like
what I hear on Wings of Innocence, knowing that these guys
have released a quality CD on their own says a lot about their talent,
which goes beyond writing and performing their music. There are
a lot of great elements incorporated on the CD. The harmonized guitars
and vocals are certainly are what is lacking in today’s mainstream
music scene. Pick up a CD from the bands official website http://www.azraelsbane.com
and enjoy.
