Artist: Cat Eye

CD Title: S/T

Label: Promo

Release Date: Out Now

Comments: Norway’s Cat Eye has existed as far back as 1996 but until the discovery of vocalist Ida Haukland the band finally hit their stride. Their debut self titled CD features five tracks that fall in the vein if traditional hard rock. The bone crunching guitars and vocals by Ida are solid if not spectacular. Ida’s unearthly growl at times has a familiar Ronni James Dio vibe (check out “Goin Down” track number 3) and really carries the melody and strength of each track.

The EP evolved at Cruise Studio’s under the watchful eyes of Lars Inge Pedersen. The production and sound quality are superb. The most notable tracks on the EP includes the melodic “The Will To Carry On” and “Backseat Queen.”

Let’s not forget Ida’s fellow musicians who easily hold their own on their perspective instruments. Oystein Kvile Hanssen is no slouch on the guitar, whether playing acoustic melodies, heavy rhythms or blazing solos. Bassist Alf Inge Eitrheim and drummer Magne J. Nyberg hold the foundation each of each song together with ease.

That being said I believe the whole EP is top notch. Cat Eye should be able to land a deal with a label in the European market with ease. I was caught by surprise when I threw this CD in my CD player. I would recommend this CD to die hard rock fans out there.
