Comments: 80s sleaze rock is alive and well and comes in the form
of Sweden's Cowboy Prostitutes. Their self-titled debut CD out know
on Retrospect Records recalls simpler times when music was enjoyable
and a party was always at hand. Turning the clock forward to 2005
and we can see for some that the party has just begun and the music
is as fresh today as it was 15 or 20 years ago.
Guitarist
and founder Anders Wickström is joined by bassist/vocalist
Luca Isabelle, drummer Pistol Per, keyboardist Andreas Strömbäck
and guitarist Martin Wilhelmsson. The CD features ten over-the-top
tracks. The energy of the band is captured track after track. There
is nothing fancy here just good old rock n' roll with modern production.
One
might question the viabilty music that draws its influences from
the glory days of 80s metal bands. Here in the states the demand
may not be as forthcoming as in Europe but it seems that within
the last couple of years die hard music fans have gotten to enjoy
the reemergence of many 80s and 90s metal bands as well as European
metallers. So there just may be a place for Cowboy Prostitutes.
There
some catchy songs on the CD including "Joy," adrenalin
pumping tracks like "Blood On Your Hands," “Make
A Name For yourself,” "Over The Top," and “The
Damned,” and an up tempo rocker “Ghost of Venice.”
The CD is diverse in its delivery and rocks from the get go. The
more I listen to Cowboy Prostitutes the more I like it their debut
CD. If the Darkness can deliver retro rock than so can Cowboy Prostitutes!
