Evil or Divine: Live in New York City is the audio soundtrack
to Dio’s live DVD Evil or Divine released by Eaglerock
Entertainment in 2003. For those that might have missed the DVD,
this is a great live recording of Dio and fellow band members; Doug
Aldrich (g), Simon Wright (d), Jimmy Bain (b) and Scott Warren (k).
Or for those who own the DVD, this is a great companion to that
release.
Whatever
your situation, Evil or Divine: Live in New York City on the Killing
the Dragon 2002 tour is splendid live performance from Dio. The
classic hits are all here; “Heaven and Hell,” “The
Last in Line,” “Holy Divrer,” “Rainbow in
the Dark,” as well as songs from the Killing the Dragon CD
including “Push,” and the title track “Killing
the Dragon.”
The
performance by guitarist Doug Aldrich is absolutely breath-taking.
While playing tracks originally recorded by Vivian Cambell, Tony
Iomini and Ritchie Blackmore, Aldrich delivers the goods and hammers
it home with his nine-minute guitar solo and outstanding guitar
work on the songs that he recorded with Dio on the “Killing
the Dragon” CD. Doug shines on this live CD.
Has
Ronni James Dio aged at all? Still exhibiting the youthful swagger
that carried Dio from Rainbow, Black Sabbath and into his successful
solo career, Ronni still has the pipes and the energy to carry the
weight of his band on his shoulders. He has united a very strong
line-up on the live CD, which is probably one of his best line-ups
to date. No offense to previous band members.
For
an hour of live classic and newly released and energized Dio songs,
this is the CD to own. Now you can listen to a great concert anywhere
without the need for a DVD player. Rock on!
Line-up:
Ronni James Dio (v), Doug Aldrich (g), Simon Wright (d), Jimmy Bain
(b) and Scott Warren (k)
