Sound Riot’s latest release from their Melodic Neo-classical
Euro Metal-dominated label is Ghost Machinery’s Haunting
Remains. This is simply put a solid, worthy CD, and not just
because they superbly covered my hero Gary Moore’s “Out
in the Fields” although that did definitely help their cause.
Ghost
Machinery is Burning Point’s lead man Pete Ahonen’s
project because he had so much written material that he didn’t
want to waste, and we are all the benefactors. Ahonen plays beautiful
melodic and soulful guitar. Bass guitarist Tapsa Pelkonen (Wildcard)
lays the deep tones, and drummer Jussi Ontero (Wildcard) does an
admirable job as well with his many powerful drum lines. Ontero
also plays some wonderful keyboards on many tracks like, “Dreamworld,”
and on the final track, “Shadows.”
Ahonen
more than acquits himself on the vocals in “Dreamworld,”
“Temples of Gold,” and Gary Moore’s classic “Out
in the Fields.” Sound Riot calls Haunting Remains
“…consistent from its first note to its last…,”
and one couldn’t agree more. It’s clean melodic Euro-Metal.
It’s one that you can put in and let play with absolutely
no weak points that cause you to have to change tracks. It’s
not quite as solid or heavy as Memorized Dreams’ effort Theater
Of Life or as technically spectacular as the All-Star super group
Artension’s release Future World, but it’s
still another in a long recent list of great Melodic Euro-Metal
CDs.
