New Yorker, Jeffrey Hayat, promotional CD titled Deux,
features his diverse musical influences that range from fluid and
melodic solos to fast arpeggio runs … balanced with a variety
of musical textures that incorporate clean guitar tones, heavy rhythms
and piano and keyboards layering that provides the musical landscape
for Jeffrey’s adventurous soloing.
Deux
reflects Jeffrey’s influences that include bands such as AC/DC,
Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Metallica, as well
as guitar players such as Randy Rhoads, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai
and Yngwie Malmsteen. Whether the tracks are high energy rockers
or more melodic in nature, Jeffrey clearly can hold his own on the
guitar. He exhibits a keen sense for melody and harmony and the
energetic rhythm work plays well into the excitement of the four
track EP.
"I
Will Be Heard" is rip roaring with energized riffs. "On
The Edge" opens with a piano and synth before the guitars cut
loose with arpeggio and harnony guitar madness (AKA Malmsteen) leading
into a distorted rhythm section. "Violent Work of Art"
hits hard from the get go, heavy rhythm guitar work (almost a Megadeth
rhythmic feel) and blistering solos. "And Forever Again"
opens with a melodic clean guitar, picking each note of the chords
(arpegiated) before a very melodic solo enters and carries you into
the song. The track mixes it up with a variety of rhythmic changes
and themes.
Fans
of instrumental guitar rock will appreciate the level of musicianship
on Deux. Jeffrey Hayat fits right in there with everyone's
guitar heros, Malmsteen, Vai, Satriani, etc. According to Jeffrey's
website a second CD effort is in the works. I can't wait to check
that disk out.
