Vivien Lalu, a French born composer, brings something strange, yet
appealing to the music world with this first release. Keys, being
the apparatus of his expertise as well as the weapon of choice in
his arsenal of seemingly unlimited effects and toys, are the dominant
force throughout this disc. The music is as mysterious as it is
normal.
In
certain areas, it conforms to the traditional status quo, in regards
to the written laws of composition and music, while at other times
deliberately taking a sidestep or two or 10. The vocals are good
but a little on the side of generic. It would be a feat for anyone
to take on these parts and put in the script, so don't be deceived
in any way by the prior statement. Picture, if you would, what would
happen if you took the traditional influences of a band like Yes
and combined it with Journey, and to top it all off, you added a
dark element just for shits and giggles. Now the the basic gist
of my description is beginning to paint a more vivid picture for
you I hope. If you have a taste for things that definitively deviate
from the norm, then this, my friend, is for you.
