Terry Bozzio, veteran musician, drummer and percussionist has had
a long successful career playing with the Frank Zappa Band, founding
the group Missing Persons and performing with countless other bands
and musicians including Jeff Beck, Billy Sheehan, Robbie Robertson,
Gary Wright, Don Dokken, XYZ, Paul Hyde, Herbie Hancock, Dweezil
Zappa, Richard Marx and the list goes on and on.
His
latest studio release Prime Cuts is both retrospective
and introspective into the musical genius of Bozzio. Prime Cuts
is a collection of recordings culled from the vaults of Magna Carta
that span over a decade. The CD features Terry performing as a solo
artists and tracks with Tony Levin, Steve Stevens, Jordan Rudess,
the Explorers Club, Billy Sheehan, Wayne Gardner, Matt Guillory,
James LeBrie (Dream Theater), James Murphy, and John Petrucci (Dream
Theater).
Don’t
be fooled into believing that just because Terry Bozzio is a drummer
that Prime Cuts only features performances that are exclusively
jam sessions for Bozzio. The CD features 8 tracks that diversified
and are complete songs whether instrumental or feature vocal accompaniment.
The creative and talented Bozzio shines on the CD as well as the
assemble cast of musicians.
New
treasures to be added to the musical library of Bozzio fans are
the previously unreleased track “Walking Dream” from
the Blacklight Syndrome sessions (featuring Bozzio, Levin and Stevens)
and the newly recorded track “Sick Jazz Surgery.” Bozzio
touches base within several genres of music including jazz, funk,
metal and rock. For fans new to the musical stylings of Bozzio this
is a great introduction. As you listen to the CD you will come to
realize how comfortable Bozzio is playing within the realm of these
different musical genres.
The
CD includes a bonus video of the song “Gigantipithicus”
(excerpt) from Explorers Club, Raising The Mammoth. As well as a
15 minute interview with Terry Bozzio.
