Poison
hit the stage at 9:30 p.m. Anticipation and giddy excitement rolled
through the crowd. Bret, C.C., Bobbi and Rikki took the stage and
immediately headed into the classic “Look What The Cat Dragged
In.” Bret took the microphone and center stage and took control
of show. Pyros, smoke and 20 years of hits were jammed into what turned
out be only and hour and 23 minute performance.

The band
churned through the ensemble of hits, “Ride the Wind,”
“Something to Believe In,” (dedicated to our soldiers,)
“Unskinny Bop” and performed their cover of “We’re
An American Band.” C.C. took an extended solo break, which surprisingly
showed much improvement on his guitar playing ability. C.C. also took
the microphone for his song “I Hate Every Bone In Your Body
But Mine.” Rikki took his turn in spotlight performing an energetic
drum solo.
As with
all Poison shows, the female fans embraced “Every Rose Has Its
Thorn.” The band looked youthful and in good spirits. The internal
turmoil of the past seemed to have been shoved aside. C.C. as always
played it up for the fans and photographers alike. For the first time
in my experience seeing the band live the audio mix was balanced perfectly.
Poison
drove home a point that everyone should remember it’s the fans
not the critics that make or break a band. Poison longevity has come
at the hands of their songwriting ability and the hearts of their
fans. If only music could be fun and enjoyable again as it was in
the decadent ‘80s.
