Comments:
A pretty cool metal band from Boston, Mass., Hourcast debuts with
State of Disgrace. The style of music is pretty much melodic
metal or nu-metal with a slight feel of harder, heavier genres. Most
importantly, it is really well done on several levels. First the vocals
are sung very well by front man Pat McBride. Next there is a lot of
ambience to this record, not just the conventional feeling of the
four man bass, drums, guitar, vocals mix. A good example of this is
the beeping noise that spices up the heavy track God Failed.
It is almost a harder stronger version of the Arkansas based Evanescence,
(and before you laugh or act stupid, metal God Yngwie Malmsteen named
them in an interview last year as the best band he had heard in many
years).
These
Bostonians have a unique feel alright, and it is both aggressive and
comforting. They do things like relax the harsh power and chill into
the groove like 3rd of July where they slow down and speed
up several times. The tuning of the guitar is perfect with pretty
picking many places on the record. The bass also leads at times with
the drums constantly providing the power to the music.
All
in all every song is complete and really good with none of them sticking
out, the sign of an excellent album. Pick up a copy; it goes on sale
June 20. Also check out these talented Americans currently on tour
with Sevendust and Soil.
