Comments: A really unique, cool, kick-ass industrial/thrash jazz/fusion metal band, Twisted Into Form are here and they really have a unique mix. Charging chops cool dominant layered bass notes and shrill vocals that simply work on every level is probably the best way to describe these sick pups. Naming your album after a quote from the renowned Danish Golden Age religious poet Soren Kierkegaard is an interesting way to differentiate yourselves from the mass of metal bands today. Creating a wonderfully spirited work of art is another!
The vocals early on the cd are actually of the same tone one usually hears on a Christian Rock praise/worship CD, not usually found here in the throws of metal/fusion. The band consists of guitarist Kaj Gornitzka (Spiral Architect), drummer David Husvik (Extol), bassist Erik Aadland and vocalist Leif J. Knashaug (Spiral Architect). The music though is much different from other fusion rock bands like OHM for example. Ohm hit heavier grooves and deeper tones; these boys are really light and loose with their compositions.
Obviously the vocals separate these boys from the rest as well. Most of the bands doing jazz/rock fusion are mainly interested in instrumental and rarely include singing to the mix. They throw in distortion laced guitar work from Gornitzka all over the album as well as dozens of conventional riffs and leads. The bass is the best thing though as usually happens with the fusion movement. An ordinary joker that could blend into a regular rock or metal band wouldnt stand a chance in any self respecting fusion project. This is illustrated and illuminated very well on The Flutter Kings, where Aadland is extraordinary.
These guys really spice it up though with feels from punk rock, acoustic rock and a lil blues as well. The licks on House of Nadir for example sound almost like old Metallica, then they slow it down with sweet ass guitar picking combined with clearly sung reflective vocals. The bottom line here is these guys are very well schooled on their particular instruments, yet absolutely work their butts off to fit the parts together into a cohesive body of work. It was produced by Neil Kernon (Spiral Architect, Nevermore, Queensryche, Cannibal Corpse.) Guaranteed this will be the most unique and interesting 44 minutes of your week, as these boys take you places you could never before afford to visit.
Buy this gem immediately, if not sooner. This album is perfect for any occasion, but especially if you have a first date and want to impress the young lady with your incredible taste and intellect.
