Children of Bodom
Comments: Want a DVD from the band which contains the guitarist Steve Vai and Zakk Wylde call the next great one? OK, then Children of Bodoms latest release is for you. What you get to see is so much more then Alexi Laihos guitar prowess though. The band is one of the most complete groups of musicians in the world of metal. With Janne Warman lighting up the keyboards in massive dueling scenarios with Laiho, rhythm guitarist Roope laying sick ass rhythms, Blacksmith ass-raping the bass and Jaska murdering the skins you have a band that rivals Americas finest. As the DVD starts you realize the quality is absolutely spectacular. The coloring, clarity and angles are top notch. You are treated to a great set list from Children of Bodom as well as a camera man smart enough to show Laiho up close playing several amazing solos. The angle in which it is shot has you feel at certain times that you are a part of the crowd. Awesome, fucking awesome. The solos on several of the songs see Laiho holding his black and white V-shaped axes straight up in the air and playing faster then the speed of sound. Wow. Over and over again you see crystal clear footage of the Wild Child with those wicked black painted fingernails speeding through clean tremendously rhythmic solos. This is one of the best DVDs for guitar heads in years. The stage presence vocal command and the way Laiho interacts with Warman are other key reasons this DVD kicks ass. The DVD Chaos Ridden Years/ Stockholm Knockout Live consists of over three hours of non-stop footage, and also contains all eight of the videos they have created to date. The videos are all kick ass. The first one is Are you dead Yet?" which starts out with a man stumbling then falling in the idle of a desert. Across the screen scrolls the words Are these your last steps? Then the same actor gets pulled over by a cop and the words Are you busted?, as these scenarios play themselves out, they show the Finnish band playing the song through some sort of faded vision. This is a truly great production. The second video is even better with the band being shown in some spooky green light as they play an older song. The reason its better is that it is stripped down to its black metal roots with very small production and very big sound. Here Warman plays a very scary black metal keyboard piece on this track really setting off the Roope and Laiho guitar parts. He also gets off on a sweet keyboard solo. Another killer piece is Deadnight Warrior from back in 1998. On this track they show Alexi tear up a tight metal lead with killer plain bright lighting. What an amazingly talented band, wow. The DVD will also include a documentary film about the bands past, present and future directed by Yka Jarvinen (Indie Films OY) as well as a "making of the DVD" and a photo gallery. Bottom line folks is there is more packed into this DVD then in any other metal DVD in history! Spinefarm is also releasing a double live CD of the band's Stockholm performance as well. Get your happy asses online and pre-order one of these jewels. This is for every single metal fan alive as these guys are one of the top ten best black/thrash/speed/death metal bands in the world.
