CD/DVD Reviews

Shamrain
Goodbye to All That Spikefarm Records

by Hannah Zimmerman
Staff Writer

Comments: The alternative, atmospheric rock band, Shamrain has put out its newest record Goodbye to All That. The record is best described as a collection of dream-like songs dripping with melodic rhythms and powerful strung out crescendos. The softness of the band is complimented by the smooth, gentle voice of the vocalist creating a very relaxed sound that at times is lacking intensity.

The song "Raindrops" swells and falls to create a dramatic dreamlike sound. The band seems to keep it simple throughout the album with empty sounding solos and simple drum beats all backed with a melodic guitar and keyboard.

"Stars will Fall," stands out songs on the album. It has an acoustic guitar mixed in with the bands electric heavy sound. It then grows into an intense melodic song yet it still has a very calming effect.

As a whole this CD has very tranquil sound that could put a listener to sleep. Not because it's boring, but because of its extremely relaxing sound. This CD is not recommended to be listened to during driving or operating heavy machinery.
