Kreator
At The Pulse Of Kapitulation-Live In East Berlin 1990 / DVD/CD Steamhammer
by Matthew Hoffman
Staff Writer
Comments: Out now for fans of the dominant German thrash metal pioneers
Kreator, is the re-release on DVD of Live in East Berlin and Hallucinative
Comas, both previously available only on VHS video cassette. The DVD
release is entitled At the Pulse of Kapitulation - Live In East Berlin
1990.
The performance is mixed by the famed Brit Andy Sneap (Megadeth, Nevermore, Exodus) who does a remarkable job of making the old sound new again. The performance is 18 years old and has the qualities of that day only with a modern feel to it.
What you get here is 120 minutes of footage that includes the audio performance, mini horror film tracks from their Hallucinative Coma creation and a DVD that includes a documentary.
In the documentary entitled The Past Is Now the band speaks about the meaning of the Berlin Wall in the Cold War, and its subsequent fall. It speaks about the landmark concert that was really the first chance for 7000 mostly Eastern Germans to see a powerhouse Western metal show. Those fans way of life included buying albums that cost a weeks wage on the black market! After escaping that environment the excitement and feeling in the air for these metal starved fans was amazing. Band members described the entire crowd even head banging to the songs played between the bands sets.
The mini-horror film Hallucinative Coma is really a creative piece of genius as drawings are mixed expertly with landscapes, actors and the band playing heavy aggressive thrash metal. This is truly the best part about this unique release. The music is so heavy and the images so vile and scary that it makes for a lot of family fun.
The songs performed at this concert by Kreator were from their first 4 albums which were all thrash metal (Later on the band experimented with different styles).
In fact, the music is significantly better on this release than their latest Enemy of God release from 2005. It is spirited aggressive and true thrash metal.
So folks this is certainly a keepsake for fans of history and old school thrash metal.
